Faking Time Outs

Postby khunkwai » Wed Apr 25, 2012 6:00 pm

Sorry my first post is a negative one, but an irritation needs to be stopped.

There seem to be an increasing number of players, who once they know they have lost just sit on their turns tapping the screen to stop time outs and trying to make opponents think the game has locked up. This needs to be fixed with some form of max time per turn. While I post this I've been sitting on the last turn of a game for around 10 minutes now...

It's a great game, the only game I play online of any kind, its a shame that few idiots should ruin it for other players...

There is already a 4 minute turn limit, you can't keep on turning off the countdown timer. Are you sure you didn't time out or have a crash in the game?

It's not my turn so I'm not timing out as far as I am aware, yesterday I have a guy taking 3-4 mins per move as he dragged his way to defeat.

The game I just had might be the game locked up when the opponent timed out, but as there was no post game info it was impossible to know

When you are timing out, you don't receive the information that your turn has started. I've had it happen while playing a friend whom told me he passed the turn to me.

Yeah, the time out problems are annoying but in all fairness to the community I don't think I can remember playing anyone who appeared to deliberately trying to win through stalling.

You have to bear in mind that some people do take a fair amount of time to consider their moves and that almost any game no matter how lost can still be won by a great play.

The solution is a fast landline and a good pc.
Leaving the house and using mobile devices are small offers for a better rating.

But I do hope they fix it for you people, perhaps I can get a mobile devices too then. (Leaving the house might be nice, now that summer is coming    )

Okay first my apologies to the player that I (from many miles away) soundly cursed yesterday, it appears he timed out or forfeited and then the game sat doing nothing at my end....and I had actually won (score and rating went up)

But aside from that I have had the occasional player sit on turns, to try and bore me to death in the later stages of a game..... anyway all's well :)

There are reasonable time limits at the moment:
60second idle timeout (if you idle 60s you lose),
4minute total turn length (end turn will automatically follow).

In my knowledge, so far there has been only 1 thread in the forums complaining about deliberately slow player.
And I must say thank god it wasn't about me, because I hate making stupid mistakes and I tend to take my time when playing seriously.
But naturally, especially when starting Cabals the rounds may take a bit longer time because there's so much to digest.

Cheers,
Mika

It has happened to me too, that someone losing seemed to be deliberately trying to bore me into forfeiting. I am myself a rather slow player, but this was seriously slow. And in the end, they seemed to get it that I wouldn't give up and played to the end.
Bu this was a while back and I guess this isn't possible anymore. Good! :)
